School Speech Therapist - Astoria, New York
A full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) position is available in a high school setting located in Astoria, NY, serving students ages 14 to 21. This contract role offers the opportunity to work closely with a diverse caseload, including students with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other genetic disorders. Many students are non-verbal and use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, providing a rewarding and impactful professional experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct speech and language therapy tailored to individual student needs
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, and families to develop and implement communication strategies
- Assess, document, and monitor student progress toward communication goals
- Support the use and integration of AAC devices to enhance student communication
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to individualized education plans (IEPs)
Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology
- Experience working in school settings is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of communication disorders related to autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other genetic conditions
- Proven ability to engage with non-verbal students and familiarity with AAC devices
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary educational team
Location: Astoria, NY
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM
