A pristine and tranquil state is waiting for you on your next SLP job.  West Virginia continues to retain its original solitude and character as it moves into the next century, as 75% of the state is still cloaked in woodlands. To give you an idea of its small town charm, on the “panhandle” the city of Weirton stretches from the border of Ohio to the border of Pennsylvania – the only community in the US to do that. You may want to stop in at the Lilly Family Reunion that is held each year at Flat Top. It attracts 10,000 attendees each year and is believed to be the largest family reunion in the US. If you feel adventurous, head over toward Fayetteville in October and join in the celebration at the New River Gorge Bridge. At the second highest steel arch bridge in the US, participants parachute and bungee jump the 876 feet off the bridge. It is West Virginia’s largest single day event and attracts as many as 100,000 people.

For a truly different venture during your SLP job, check in at the Greenbrier resort at White Sulphur Springs. This five star resort is only a few hours from Washington D.C. and attracts visitors with its impeccable service – 1,600 staff members serving up to 1,500 guests! Be sure to check out the biggest atomic bomb shelter built in the US – its two stories high. Built 45 years ago during the Cold War, this bunker was designed to secure the entire U.S. Congress and their staff in case of an attack. Today, as it is no longer needed or secret, it is open to the public, so don’t miss this one of a kind escapade when you take an SLP job in West Virginia.
