School Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) | Penfield, New York

You’ll have an opportunity to provide vital support to a unique population. The caseload consists solely of students with intellectual disabilities (IQs below 70), including some residential students. The class ratio is 6:1:3, and you’ll work with ages ranging from 7 to 21. Many students use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and are nonverbal, with a range of behavioral and communication needs. If you are passionate about helping students build their communication skills and independence, this is a rewarding and dynamic setting.
Preferred qualifications:
- Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP-CCC)
- Experience in school settings, specifically supporting students with developmental disabilities and autism
- Skilled in AAC device implementation for nonverbal students
- Ability to manage behaviors and adapt communication strategies to individual needs
- Comfortable collaborating within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments and develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Deliver direct and consultative speech/language therapy
- Train and collaborate with staff on AAC tools and customized strategies
- Monitor student progress and document sessions per school and contract standards
- Support students in building functional communication skills appropriate to their individual abilities
