VOCO is seeking two dedicated and qualified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) to support students across the Chattanooga area for the 2026–2027 school year.

These itinerant positions support students across K–12+ grade levels and provide an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in both general education and specialized classroom settings. The district may also consider experienced virtual candidates with a minimum of five years of experience working as a Virtual TVI.

Position Details

  • Full-time schedule: 35 hours per week

  • Part-time candidates may also be considered

  • Itinerant caseload with geographically assigned schools to help reduce travel time

  • Caseloads include students in:

    • General education classrooms

    • Specialized classrooms for students with multiple disabilities

  • Grade levels span elementary, middle, and high school populations

  • TVIs participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

  • District utilizes the TN Pulse platform for IEP management

  • Students use Chromebooks throughout the district

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and consultative vision services to students with visual impairments

  • Support access to curriculum through Braille instruction and assistive technology

  • Collaborate with educators, service providers, and families

  • Participate in IEP development, meetings, and compliance documentation

  • Travel between assigned schools within the district

  • Assist students in developing independence and accessibility skills

Qualifications

  • Active Department of Education certification/licensure required

  • Experience with Braille instruction required

  • Familiarity with assistive technology for visually impaired students strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of accessing assistive technology through the Federal Quota program is a plus

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

  • Virtual candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of successful Virtual TVI experience

  • Fingerprinting required prior to start

  • Established contract rates through Cooperative RFQ

These positions have remained vacant throughout the 2025–2026 school year, and the district is eager to identify strong candidates who are passionate about supporting students with visual impairments across diverse educational settings.
