A national treasure in every sense of the word, the District of Columbia hosts world class restaurants, hopping night life, and a practically limitless array of the best museums anywhere. Just touring the Smithsonian Museums could keep an SLP occupied for the better part of a month, and there would still be more to see. Eighteen museums make up the Smithsonian ‘family,’ almost all of which are still free (some special exhibits may have a fee.) When you take a SLP job in DC, you can see everything from Charles Lindberg’s Spirit of St. Louis to the Hope Diamond. Judy Garland’s ruby slippers and Archie Bunker’s armchair are also on display.
While on your speech therapy assignment, you’ll have easy access to all areas via the metro system, which makes traversing the city more accessible and very manageable. The National Zoo features world-famous giant pandas and the less well-known but still lovable sloths, red pandas, and clouded leopards that inhabit the Asia Trail. Cherry blossoms blooming at the Tidal Basin make a pleasant conclusion to a tour of the National Mall, which stretches from the Capital to the Lincoln Memorial and includes a number of poignant memorials to the nation’s fallen soldiers and respected leaders. While the White House is a must see, almost everything else is too! Come enjoy it all during your next SLP job in Washington, DC.
