State Requirements - Education, Licensure, and Certification
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a major in communication sciences or disorders, including a minimum of 24 semester credit hours in speech-language pathology and/or audiology (at least 18 hours in speech-language pathology; at least 3 hours in language disorders; at least 3 hours in speech disorders)
- Valid Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)
- Completion of 25 hours of clinical observation and 25 hours of clinical assisting experience prior to or after licensure (as outlined in the TDLR Clinical Observation and Experience Form)
- Completion and submission of an SLP Supervisory Responsibility Statement Form from a licensed supervising SLP prior to beginning practice

Typical Job Duties
- Assist the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in providing speech, language, and communication services to students with IEPs
- Conduct speech and language screenings under the direction and supervision of the SLP
- Implement planned therapy activities and treatment programs as designed by the supervising SLP
- Document student progress, session notes, and data as directed by the supervising SLP
- Assist during evaluations and assessments as assigned by the supervising SLP
- Communicate with teachers, school staff, and families as directed by the supervising SLP
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Wear required identification indicating assistant status at all times during service delivery
