State Requirements - Education, Licensure, and Certification
- One of the following degrees completed: (a) bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology or communication sciences and disorders from an accredited institution; or (b) associate's degree in an allied health field with a minimum of 3 credit hours each in normal speech-language development, speech disorders, anatomy and physiology of speech systems, and language disorders/phonology
- Valid Speech-Language Pathology Assistant license issued by the Maryland Board of Examiners for Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Music Therapists
- Completion of 25 hours of clinical observation and 75 hours of clinical assisting experience obtained within an accredited associate, bachelor's, or master's program
- Passing score on the Maryland Law and Regulation Examination (60 multiple choice questions, open book, 75% passing score required)
- Must practice under the supervision of a fully licensed SLP with a minimum of 3 years of work experience; a full-time supervising SLP may not supervise more than two full-time SLPAs
- License renewal requires a minimum of 10 continuing education units (CEUs) every two years
- ASHA C-SLPA credential accepted as meeting licensure requirements (license may be waived for valid ASHA registrants)

Typical Job Duties
- Assist the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in providing speech, language, and communication services to students with IEPs
- Conduct speech and language screenings under the direction and supervision of the SLP
- Implement planned therapy activities and treatment programs as designed by the supervising SLP
- Document student progress, session notes, and data as directed by the supervising SLP
- Assist during evaluations and assessments as assigned by the supervising SLP
- Communicate with teachers, school staff, and families as directed by the supervising SLP
- Maintain accurate records in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
- Wear required identification indicating assistant status at all times during service delivery

Compensation for this position ranges from $24.76 to $44.76. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals.
