Speech Pathology - New York, NY
A full-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) position is available in a high school setting in New York, NY, serving students ages 14 to 21. This contract role requires a skilled professional with expertise in school-based speech-language pathology, including certification (CCC-SLP), to support a diverse caseload of students.
Responsibilities include providing direct therapy to students with various diagnoses such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other genetic disorders. Many students are non-verbal and rely on AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices, requiring tailored communication support. Collaboration with teachers and staff to implement individualized education plans and maximize each student’s communication potential is essential. The position follows a schedule from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, allowing time for preparation, therapy, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Key Qualifications:
- Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP)
- Experience working in school settings with a focus on high school-aged students
- Knowledge of communication disorders, including autism spectrum disorders and genetic conditions affecting speech and language
- Proficiency with AAC devices and alternative communication strategies
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively with educators and other professionals
