Qualifications & Desired Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Speech-Language, or Communication Disorders is required
- Previous experience working as an SLPA in a school setting is highly valued
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency
- Ability to adapt and engage with a diverse student population
- No SLPA license required in Virginia—candidates must meet the state’s education requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct speech-language therapy services to assigned students as directed by a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist
- Support implementation and documentation of student goals set within the Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- Prepare instructional materials, adapt activities, and encourage student participation during sessions
- Collect and record data regarding student progress and collaborate with teachers and staff to optimize outcomes
- Communicate regularly with the supervising SLP regarding student needs, progress, and session plans
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district and ethical standards
This is a 35-hour-per-week position, typically structured as 7 hours per day during the academic calendar. The schedule offers predictability and the chance to develop meaningful connections within schools and among students in the community.
