This opportunity is for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide specialized support in a unique educational setting serving students with complex communication needs. The school caters to students aged 5-21 with severe cognitive and behavioral disabilities, many of whom use alternative communication methods and are non-verbal. The environment is highly structured, with self-contained classrooms maintaining an 8:1:3 student-to-staff ratio. This role requires experience working with students across various grade levels: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
Position Details:
- Location: Saratoga Springs, NY
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM
- Contract Duration: ASAP through End of School Year (EOSY)
- Setting: Special private school with 78 students in 10 self-contained classrooms
- School Type: Year-round, dedicated therapy space available
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting speech and language assessments and developing individualized goals for students with level 3 autism and severe disabilities
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement communication strategies tailored to alternative communication methods
- Delivering therapeutic interventions aimed at improving speech, language, and functional communication skills in a highly specialized setting
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting therapy plans as necessary to meet educational and communication objectives
- Documenting therapy sessions and maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and educational standards
Qualifications:
- Valid SLP certification and licensure appropriate for New York
- Previous experience working with students with autism spectrum disorders and severe cognitive disabilities
- Skilled in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team in a self-contained classroom setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
