Travel School Speech Therapist - Albany, New York

This opportunity is for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) located in Queensbury, NY, approximately 45 minutes north of Albany. The position supports a special private school serving students with severe cognitive disabilities and complex communication needs. Many students are non-verbal and use alternative communication methods (AAC), with some requiring pediatric dysphagia management.
This is a travel assignment that begins ASAP and continues year-round within a school setting. The role offers valuable experience working with a diverse pediatric population, including students with challenging behaviors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide speech-language pathology services tailored to students with severe cognitive and communication impairments.
- Implement and support AAC strategies for non-verbal students.
- Address pediatric feeding and swallowing concerns as part of therapy plans.
- Collaborate with educators, therapists, and families to develop individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Deliver effective supervision and guidance for Clinical Fellows (CFs).
Qualifications:
- NYS Teaching Certificate as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped.
- Experience or interest in pediatric dysphagia and AAC.
- Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates are welcome; supervision will be provided.
- Skills in school-based, pediatric, healthcare, and CFY speech-language pathology settings advantageous.
Location: Queensbury, New York — a short travel assignment near Albany.
