Title: Virtual School Social Worker

Overall, Illinois school social workers play a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Job duties:

In Illinois, school social workers play a vital role in supporting students' academic success, social-emotional well-being, and overall development. Their duties typically include:

  1. Assessment: Conducting assessments to evaluate students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs, as well as factors impacting their academic performance.

  2. Counseling: Providing individual and group counseling to students to address social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, and supporting their personal and academic growth.

  3. Crisis Intervention: Offering immediate support and intervention to students and families during crises, emergencies, or traumatic events.

  4. Collaboration: Collaborating with school staff, administrators, teachers, and parents to develop and implement strategies to support students' success and well-being.

  5. Special Education Support: Participating in the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with social-emotional or behavioral needs, and providing support to special education staff.

  6. Advocacy: Advocating for students' rights and access to educational resources, services, and accommodations to ensure equitable opportunities for learning.

  7. Referral and Resource Coordination: Identifying and connecting students and families to community resources, mental health services, and other support systems outside of the school environment.

  8. Prevention and Education: Developing and delivering prevention programs and educational workshops on topics such as bullying prevention, conflict resolution, substance abuse prevention, and social skills development.

  9. Documentation: Maintaining accurate and confidential records of student assessments, counseling sessions, interventions, and referrals, in compliance with state and federal regulations and school policies.

  10. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as trauma-informed practice, social-emotional learning, crisis intervention, and cultural competency.

 

Compensation: Ranges- $35-$45+ per hour depending on location of school. 

Location: Schools throughout Illinois
