Extended School Year SLPA
We are seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to join our team for Extended School Year (ESY) services in Palmer, MA. As an ESY SLPA, you will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist to support students with speech and language needs during the summer months, ensuring they receive continuity of services to maintain and enhance their communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist in implementing individualized treatment plans for students with speech and language disorders.
- Provide direct support to students in individual or small group settings, targeting specific speech and language goals as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Conduct therapy sessions using evidence-based techniques and activities to address students' speech and language needs, including articulation, language comprehension, expressive language, and pragmatic skills.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other members of the educational team to integrate speech and language goals into students' academic and social activities.
- Assist in the development of materials and resources to support students' speech and language development, including visual aids, communication boards, and other assistive technology devices.
- Monitor and document students' progress toward IEP goals, including anecdotal notes, data collection, and progress reports.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on students' progress, share strategies for carryover of skills at home, and address any concerns or questions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field.
- Completion of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or relevant coursework.
- Certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) or eligibility for certification.
- Previous experience working with individuals with speech and language disorders, preferably in a school or educational setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in speech-language therapy and familiarity with assessment and intervention techniques.
- Must be able to pass background checks and meet any additional requirements set forth by the school district.
Term of Employment: This is a temporary position for the duration of the Extended School Year program, typically running during the summer months. Exact dates and hours will be determined based on the needs of the district and the availability of the hired candidate. 24-25 School Year position renewal is a possibility as well.
