A specialized opportunity is available for a Speech-Language Pathologist experienced in acute care settings, focusing on oncology-related inpatient and outpatient treatment. This role involves providing expert care to medically complex patients recovering from head and neck cancer surgeries, assessing swallowing function, breathing, and cognitive rehabilitation primarily linked to chemotherapy effects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing and interpreting modified barium swallow studies and communicating findings effectively to patients.
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary care, including collaborating with dietitians on diet progression.
  • Managing an average caseload of 6-9 patients per day.
  • Utilizing Epic for comprehensive documentation.
  • Conducting cognitive and swallowing assessments and developing tailored treatment plans.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Active state license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • MBSImP certification mandatory; CCC-SLP and FEES certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year acute care experience with adults, including expertise in dysphagia, neurogenic communication disorders, tracheostomy management, and modified barium swallow studies.
  • Proficiency with Medicare and Medicaid documentation and coding.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Prior experience in oncology or medically fragile populations highly valued.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with FEES assessments, laryngectomy, traumatic brain injury, and augmentative communication devices.
  • Knowledge of manual therapy techniques and voice prosthesis management.
  • Leadership experience and advanced assessment tools (e.g., Aphasia Language Performance Scale).

Shift/Schedule:

  • Day shift, three 8-hour shifts per week from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday through Thursday, with potential to add a fourth shift.
