School Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) In Canon City, CO

Role: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA)

Location: Canon City, CO

Term: August 15, 2025 – May 22, 2026

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Work Sites: You'll split your time between an Elementary School (K-5th grade) and a High School, located just 7-8 minutes apart.

Caseload: Support a diverse caseload of around 55-65 students. Approximately 10 elementary students are speech-only, with the remaining students receiving speech services as a secondary disability.

Workload Distribution: Roughly 80% of your work will be at the elementary level, with the remaining 20% at the high school, which is primarily consult-based.

AAC Devices: Some AAC device use at the high school level.
Responsibilities:

Assist the supervising SLP in implementing treatment plans for students with communication disorders.

Provide direct speech and language therapy services to students individually or in small groups, as directed by the SLP.

Document student progress and maintain accurate records.

Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff under the guidance of the SLP.

Prepare therapy materials and maintain an organized therapy environment.

Support the use of AAC devices as needed, particularly at the high school level.

Participate in team meetings as requested.
Qualifications:

Valid Colorado SLPA license or eligibility for licensure.

Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Experience working in a school setting, particularly with elementary and/or high school age groups, is a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Knowledge of common communication disorders and therapeutic techniques.

Familiarity with AAC devices is beneficial.
