Transform comprehension abilities for students with receptive language disorders through specialized intervention in our progressive virtual education platform. We're seeking a speech language pathologist who excels at helping students understand spoken language, follow directions, and comprehend complex linguistic information.

Role Structure

Support approximately 46-54 students per week with emphasis on receptive language difficulties, working 36.5 hours in our virtual education system. Your expertise will help students develop listening comprehension, vocabulary understanding, and language processing abilities essential for academic learning and social communication.

Receptive Language Intervention

  • Assess receptive vocabulary, grammar comprehension, and listening skills
  • Target understanding of increasingly complex vocabulary and word meanings
  • Develop comprehension of grammatical structures and morphology
  • Build following directions abilities from simple to complex multi-step commands
  • Address question comprehension across basic to advanced WH-questions
  • Support understanding of temporal and sequential concepts for directions
  • Implement strategies for comprehending classroom instruction and lectures

Vocabulary Comprehension

  • Build receptive vocabulary across basic, tier 2, and tier 3 academic words
  • Address understanding of multiple meaning words and context-based meanings
  • Target comprehension of word relationships including synonyms and antonyms
  • Develop understanding of categorization and semantic associations
  • Support vocabulary comprehension across content area instruction
  • Address abstract and figurative language comprehension difficulties
  • Implement strategies for using context clues to determine word meanings

Grammar and Syntax Comprehension

  • Target understanding of grammatical morphemes in receptive tasks
  • Address comprehension of complex sentence structures and embedded clauses
  • Build understanding of passive voice and advanced syntactic forms
  • Support comprehension of negation and comparison structures
  • Target understanding of temporal and conditional relationships in sentences
  • Address pronoun referent identification and comprehension
  • Implement activities requiring syntactic comprehension for meaning

Listening Comprehension and Processing

  • Develop auditory attention and sustained listening abilities
  • Target comprehension of increasingly lengthy verbal information
  • Address story and passage comprehension at literal and inferential levels
  • Support comprehension monitoring and self-checking strategies
  • Implement strategies for organizing and retaining verbal information
  • Address comprehension of main ideas and supporting details
  • Target understanding of cause-effect relationships and predictions

Professional Requirements

  • Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
  • Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license
  • 2+ years of school-based experience with receptive language emphasis
  • Strong knowledge of receptive language development and disorders
  • Experience with listening comprehension assessment and intervention
  • Proficiency with teletherapy platforms and virtual service delivery
  • Excellent skills in analyzing receptive language breakdowns

Specialized Knowledge

  • Understanding of receptive-expressive language discrepancies and implications
  • Knowledge of auditory processing considerations in receptive language
  • Familiarity with working memory impact on language comprehension
  • Experience with visual supports enhancing receptive language comprehension
  • Understanding of language comprehension across academic content areas
  • Ability to differentiate hearing loss from language comprehension disorders
  • Commitment to evidence-based receptive language intervention practices
