Empower high school students to develop communication competencies essential for graduation, postsecondary success, and adult independence. We're seeking a speech language pathologist who specializes in grades 9-12 and excels at addressing advanced language, career readiness, and transition needs through relevant virtual therapy.

Position Overview

Deliver speech-language services for approximately 40-48 students in grades 9-12, working 35.5 hours weekly in our virtual high school program. Your expertise will help high school students strengthen language processing, executive functioning, career communication, and self-advocacy skills needed for adult life success.

Advanced Language Services

  • Assess higher-order language including abstract reasoning and critical thinking
  • Target advanced academic vocabulary across content areas and disciplines
  • Develop sophisticated written expression for research papers and essays
  • Address complex figurative language and nuanced communication comprehension
  • Support debate and argumentation skills for academic discourse
  • Implement advanced metacognitive strategies for comprehension and learning
  • Provide executive functioning support for long-term planning and organization

Transition and Postsecondary Planning

  • Address workplace communication skills for employment and career success
  • Support college-level communication including lectures and discussions
  • Teach self-advocacy and self-determination skills for adult independence
  • Develop interview skills for college admissions and job opportunities
  • Target resume writing and professional portfolio development
  • Support independent living communication including appointments and advocacy
  • Facilitate transition IEP goals related to postsecondary communication needs

Career Readiness Communication

  • Integrate therapy with career exploration and vocational assessment results
  • Address communication demands of specific career interests and pathways
  • Support internship and work-based learning communication requirements
  • Provide networking and professional relationship-building skill instruction
  • Target professional email and digital communication etiquette
  • Address conflict resolution and workplace problem-solving communication
  • Support entrepreneurship and business communication skills

College Preparation Support

  • Address SAT/ACT accommodations and standardized test communication strategies
  • Provide guidance on college disability services navigation and self-disclosure
  • Support college application essay writing and personal statements
  • Target presentation skills for scholarship interviews and applications
  • Address time management and organizational communication for college success
  • Support study abroad and diverse cultural communication preparation
  • Facilitate connections with college support services and resources

Professional Requirements

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
  • Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license
  • 2+ years of experience with high school or transition-age students
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and postsecondary preparation
  • Knowledge of career readiness standards and workplace communication
  • Experience delivering virtual therapy to high school students
  • Ability to connect authentically with and inspire graduating students

High School Specialization

  • Expertise in advanced language assessment and intervention for grades 9-12
  • Understanding of postsecondary transition requirements and planning
  • Knowledge of career and technical education communication demands
  • Familiarity with college readiness standards and expectations
  • Experience with students who have language-based learning disabilities
  • Understanding of mental health considerations in high school populations
  • Strong consultation skills with high school educators and transition coordinators
