We're seeking a speech language pathologist who specializes in expressive language disorders and excels at helping students develop robust vocabulary, grammar, and narrative skills through targeted virtual therapy.
Position Details
Support approximately 44-52 students per week with emphasis on expressive language difficulties, working 37.5 hours in our virtual education system. Your expertise will help students develop word-finding abilities, sentence formulation skills, and narrative organization essential for academic and social communication success.
Expressive Language Intervention
- Assess expressive vocabulary, grammar, and narrative language skills comprehensively
- Target word retrieval and word-finding difficulties through semantic strategies
- Develop grammatical morpheme use including verb tenses and possessives
- Build sentence formulation from simple to complex syntactic structures
- Implement narrative intervention improving story organization and detail
- Address verbal reasoning and explanation skills for academic success
- Support conversational discourse and topic elaboration abilities
Vocabulary Development
- Implement semantic feature analysis for vocabulary expansion and organization
- Teach word relationships including synonyms, antonyms, and categories
- Address academic vocabulary across content areas and grade levels
- Provide multiple exposures to new vocabulary in varied contexts
- Target depth of word knowledge beyond surface definitions
- Implement morphological awareness strategies for vocabulary growth
- Address word-finding strategies and semantic cueing techniques
Grammar and Syntax Development
- Target specific grammatical morphemes through focused intervention
- Build complex sentence structures using subordinate and coordinate clauses
- Address verb phrase development and tense marking accuracy
- Implement sentence combining activities for syntactic complexity
- Target question formulation across various forms and functions
- Address subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage accuracy
- Provide practice opportunities embedding grammar in meaningful contexts
Narrative and Discourse Skills
- Assess narrative language abilities using story retelling and generation tasks
- Implement story grammar intervention teaching narrative structure
- Target cohesive devices and transition words for text organization
- Build descriptive language and elaboration skills for narratives
- Address personal narratives and explanatory discourse abilities
- Support expository text generation for academic assignments
- Implement graphic organizers supporting narrative organization
Professional Requirements
- Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
- Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license
- 2+ years of school-based experience with language disorder emphasis
- Strong knowledge of expressive language development and disorders
- Experience with morphosyntactic intervention and narrative therapy
- Proficiency with teletherapy technology and virtual engagement techniques
- Excellent clinical skills in language sample analysis and goal development
