Remote SLP - Language & Literacy Focus | Grand Rapids, MI
Excel in our progressive virtual education environment as a speech language pathologist specializing in language development and literacy connections. We're recruiting an experienced clinician passionate about helping students build the language foundations essential for reading comprehension and academic achievement.
Role Framework
Support approximately 44-52 students per week through language and literacy-focused services, maintaining 36 hours in our virtual education system. Your expertise will address complex language disorders impacting academic success, with particular emphasis on phonological awareness, vocabulary development, and comprehension skills.
Language Development Services
- Assess morphosyntactic language skills using comprehensive diagnostic measures
- Target grammatical morphemes including verb tenses, plurals, and possessives
- Develop complex sentence formulation and syntactic complexity
- Build vocabulary through semantic feature analysis and word relationship strategies
- Implement narrative language intervention improving story grammar and organization
- Address metalinguistic awareness supporting language comprehension
- Provide inferencing and critical thinking language activities
Literacy Integration Expertise
- Deliver phonological awareness instruction targeting rhyming, segmentation, and blending
- Support decoding development through phonics-based intervention strategies
- Address reading comprehension through language-based intervention approaches
- Implement vocabulary instruction using morphological awareness techniques
- Target written language organization and formulation skills
- Collaborate with reading specialists on coordinated literacy interventions
- Provide consultation on language accommodations supporting curriculum access
Assessment and Progress Monitoring
- Conduct comprehensive language evaluations including CELF, CASL, and related tools
- Administer curriculum-based language measures for ongoing progress monitoring
- Analyze language sample data identifying specific intervention targets
- Complete dynamic assessment determining responsiveness to intervention
- Document baseline performance and skill development over time
- Generate detailed evaluation reports with educational recommendations
- Prepare progress summaries for IEP review meetings and parent communication
Professional Requirements
- Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)
- Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license
- 2+ years of school-based experience with language disorder emphasis
- Strong foundation in language development and literacy connections
- Knowledge of response to intervention frameworks and tiered supports
- Experience providing services through virtual platforms
- Excellent analytical skills for language sample analysis and goal development
Specialized Knowledge
- Understanding of language-based learning disabilities and dyslexia
- Familiarity with evidence-based literacy intervention programs
- Knowledge of morphological awareness and vocabulary instruction strategies
- Experience with narrative assessment and intervention approaches
- Understanding of academic language demands across grade levels
- Ability to integrate language therapy with curriculum content
- Commitment to collaborative practice with educational teams
