Pediatric School Speech Pathology | Long Beach, California
A contracted clinical speech-language pathologist with advanced knowledge in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is needed for a K-12 school located in Long Beach, CA. This opportunity involves conducting a one-time evaluation for a student with moderate to severe communication needs who is currently using an AAC device. The ideal candidate will have the expertise to assess AAC devices and recommend appropriate modifications, including Keyguard customization, as well as the potential transition to a lower-tech communication solution if clinically indicated.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a comprehensive AAC assessment for a student with extensive communication needs.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the current AAC device and its utilization.
- Recommend and demonstrate Keyguard customizations to maximize AAC device accessibility.
- Collaborate with the educational team to evaluate the suitability of a lower-tech AAC device.
- Provide detailed justification and professional guidance supporting recommendations.
- Document findings and deliver the evaluation report in compliance with school district guidelines.
Desired Qualifications:
- Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) certification and license.
- Experience and comfort working with pediatric populations in school settings.
- Expertise in AAC device assessment and customization, including Keyguard.
- Familiarity with teletherapy methods is a plus but not required.
- Strong clinical judgment and communication skills to advocate for appropriate assistive technology solutions.
- Ability to work independently and complete contracted evaluations efficiently.
