Speech Language Pathologist in Las Cruces, NM
A rewarding opportunity is available for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) professional to join a supportive public school district in Las Cruces, NM. This contract position is based at an elementary school with a full-time schedule preferred (40 hours), though part-time arrangements may be considered for candidates who are already on-site.
Located in the scenic southern region of New Mexico, Las Cruces offers a beautiful environment with convenient access to El Paso, TX, just 46 miles away. Candidates from nearby areas such as Deming and Truth or Consequences, near White Sands National Park, are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities include providing direct speech therapy services to a caseload of approximately 60 students, including support for three Structured Communication Classrooms (SCCs). Experience with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) is a plus but not mandatory—an eagerness to learn is highly valued. The position requires focusing on current therapy and caseload needs, without addressing compensatory services at this time.
Candidates must hold a valid New Mexico state license, as obtaining licensure can take some time and the district cannot wait for candidates who have not yet applied. A Pedagogical Certification from the New Mexico Department of Education is required by the start date; however, those with a state license may begin while certification is pending.
While bilingual candidates are ideal, monolingual professionals are welcomed since the team already includes two bilingual SLPs who are kind, helpful, and supportive colleagues.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid NM state licensure as Speech-Language Pathologist
- PED certification through NM Dept. of Education (or pending upon start)
- SLP or CFY eligibility
- Experience or willingness to learn AAC
- Ability to manage a caseload of approximately 60 students
- Bilingual skills preferred but not required
This school district values and appreciates the work their therapists provide, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Immediate start—contract runs through the end of the school year.
If you meet these qualifications and seek to contribute your skills in a vibrant, supportive setting, consider this opportunity in Las Cruces, NM. Apply today to make a meaningful impact on student success.
