School Speech Therapist - Jersey City, New Jersey
This exciting opportunity is for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to support a high-needs student population in an elementary school setting, specializing in PreK through 3rd grade. The position focuses on assisting students who are often nonverbal, emphasizing the promotion of functional behavior and communication to foster growth and independence.
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized speech and language interventions to students with diverse communication needs
- Collaborate with educational teams to develop and implement effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Support functional communication and behavior strategies to enhance student independence
- Utilize district-specific IEP systems, with training provided to ensure effective documentation and progress monitoring
- Participate in paid team meetings and administrative tasks as applicable
- Deliver services to one school building with a caseload of students requiring specialized attention
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student and team needs
Qualifications & Experience:
- Certifications and credentials required for school-based SLP roles, including fingerprint clearance if applicable
- Experience working with nonverbal or minimally verbal students is highly preferred
- Familiarity with functional communication approaches and behavior support strategies
- Ability to use district IEP systems effectively, with training support available
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with staff and families
Location: Elementary school in Jersey City, NJ
Contract Details: This is a contract opportunity covering the current school year (CSY), with a start date as soon as possible through June 26th. The position offers approximately 35 hours per week.
