School Speech Language Pathologist - Hartford, Connecticut
A school-based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is essential in supporting students’ communication skills to ensure effective participation in academic and social settings. This contract position, located in Hartford, CT, serves students primarily in an elementary school setting throughout the current school year (CSY).
Primary Role:
The SLP evaluates, diagnoses, and treats speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in students from preschool through high school. By fostering communication development, the SLP enables students to access curriculum content and engage fully in school life.
Core Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, voice, and fluency assessments and screenings.
- Interpret evaluation data to determine eligibility for services under IDEA.
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams for thorough student evaluations.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's communication needs.
- Provide direct therapy addressing articulation, expressive/receptive language, social communication, fluency, and related areas.
- Offer indirect support through consultation with teachers and classroom collaboration.
- Modify therapy plans based on student progress and evolving needs.
- Collaborate closely with educators, special education staff, occupational/physical therapists, psychologists, and families.
- Train school staff on communication strategies and support techniques.
- Maintain detailed documentation including assessment records, progress notes, and IEP reports in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Engage in early intervention initiatives and promote communication development awareness.
- Recommend and facilitate the use of Assistive Technology and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices when appropriate, providing training for students and staff.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology preferred.
- Experience working within school settings with students experiencing a variety of communication disorders.
- Knowledge of IDEA regulations and ability to conduct formal assessments.
- Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
