Position Title: School Mental Health Therapist
Location: Moriarty, New Mexico
Start Date: Fall 2025
About the Role:
The Moriarty-Edgewood School District is seeking a compassionate, licensed, and highly motivated School Mental Health Therapist to join our student wellness team. This role is essential in fostering the emotional and psychological well-being of our students across diverse grade levels. The ideal candidate will bring trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, and a passion for youth mental health to our rural school community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Direct Clinical Services:

Provide short- and long-term individual and group therapy for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns.

Assess and diagnose mental health conditions using appropriate tools and clinical judgment.

Collaborate with school personnel to develop intervention strategies for students demonstrating at-risk behaviors.
Crisis Intervention & Prevention:

Respond promptly to mental health crises and provide de-escalation, assessment, and short-term stabilization.

Support the development of school-wide crisis prevention and response protocols.

Act as a key member of the district’s crisis response team.
Collaboration & Consultation:

Serve as a mental health resource for educators, staff, and families, helping to identify and address early warning signs.

Participate in student support teams and contribute clinical insight to behavior intervention plans and 504/IEP meetings when needed.

Facilitate partnerships with community-based providers and agencies for external referrals and wraparound services.
Outreach & Education:

Deliver workshops, classroom sessions, and presentations on mental wellness, stress management, coping skills, and resilience-building.

Support parents and caregivers through consultation and education on youth mental health issues and parenting strategies.
Administrative Duties:

Maintain accurate, confidential clinical records and treatment documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.

Track and report service utilization, outcomes, and referral patterns to support program evaluation and planning.

Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of school-based mental health programming.
Qualifications:
-
Education: Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related mental health discipline.

Licensure: Must be licensed in the state of New Mexico as an LPCC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT, or equivalent. Supervision available for clinicians working toward full licensure.

Experience: Experience working with youth in school or clinical settings preferred; rural or underserved community experience is a plus.

Skills:

Deep understanding of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices.

Ability to build strong, empathetic relationships with students, families, and school staff.

Flexibility and creativity in delivering services across varying school environments.
