Orientation and Mobility Specialist
Location: Espanola, NM
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 37.5 hours per week
Contract Dates: August 4, 2025 – May 22, 2026 (2025–2026 School Year)
Caseload: Varies based on student needs and district assignment
Blazer Jobs is seeking a certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist for a full-time, school-based role in Espanola, NM. This position is ideal for a compassionate educator dedicated to supporting the functional and independent mobility skills of students with visual impairments.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct instruction and support in non-academic areas, tailored to individual student mobility and orientation needs

Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement functional mobility goals and methods in accordance with district policies and IEP requirements

Regularly communicate with parents and team members to exchange updates and support strategies
-
Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress using formal and informal evaluation tools
-
Prepare for and actively participate in IEP meetings related to student programming and services
Requirements:

Valid New Mexico certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist or appropriate credential

National certification (COMS) preferred
-
Experience working in school settings strongly preferred

Strong understanding of visual impairments, assistive mobility tools, and travel training strategies

Ability to work collaboratively with educational teams and maintain consistent documentation
