Requirements:
Applicants must meet all local and state requirements to apply. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Completion of an associate degree program in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure or registration as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) in the state of Texas.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the scope of practice and ethical standards for SLPAs as outlined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
  • Demonstrated understanding of speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders, as well as the ability to implement evidence-based intervention strategies under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with SLPs, teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student progress and achievement.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize responsibilities, manage caseloads, and meet documentation requirements.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in continuing education opportunities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge in the field of speech-language pathology.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct speech and language therapy services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist, including individual and group sessions, in accordance with students' individualized education plans (IEPs) and treatment goals.
  • Assist with the implementation of evidence-based intervention strategies and techniques to address students' speech production, language comprehension, expressive language, fluency, voice, and pragmatics skills.
  • Collaborate with SLPs to develop and modify therapy plans, select appropriate materials and activities, and monitor student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Support students' participation in classroom activities, social interactions, and academic tasks by providing communication support, modeling strategies, and facilitating peer interactions.
  • Conduct informal assessments, collect data, and assist with progress monitoring to evaluate student performance and document outcomes in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of therapy materials, equipment, and resources to facilitate effective therapy sessions and maximize student engagement and progress.
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, and other educational staff to integrate speech and language goals into the academic curriculum and classroom routines.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress, share strategies for supporting speech and language development at home, and address concerns or questions.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional development activities, and workshops to enhance clinical skills, exchange knowledge, and contribute to a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including progress notes, therapy logs, attendance records, and compliance documentation, in accordance with school district policies and regulations.
